He was only 14 then but did not think twice before joining few others in bringing out the trapped patients. On Monday night too, Purkait didn’t think twice and was one of the first to enter the building when fire was engulfing the 13th floor, said his colleagues.  Purkait was in one of the elevators and his body was recovered along with several others.

BJP office vandalised in West Bengal, party alleges TMC for it ANI | Updated: Feb 27, 2021 13:01 IST North 24 Parganas (West Bengal) [India], February 27 (ANI): A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office in the Baranagar area of North 24 Parganas district was vandalised on Friday night. The BJP alleged Trinamool Congress (TMC) role behind this. One of the miscreants was beaten up by the BJP supporters and was later rescued by the police and taken to the police station. A police complaint has been lodged by the BJP. The Election Commission of India on Friday announced that West Bengal will witness eight-phased Assembly polls beginning March 27. The counting of votes will take place on May 2.

A train decked out in flowers but without passengers left Dakshineswar station at 4.55pm, after Modi flagged off the journey from his dais in Dunlop. The Dakshineswar-Noapara stretch will be open to passengers from Tuesday. The first passenger train will leave Dakshineswar at 7am on Tuesday, the carrier said. A 31km journey from Dakshineswar in the north to Kavi Subhas (New Garia), the terminal station in the south, is expected to take 62 minutes, said an official.
