Leon Joseph Cyr, a.k.a. Brother Leon, a religious Brother of the Sacred Heart, died Monday, July 19, 2021, at Overlook Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Pascoag, RI.
The second of three children of the late Anthem and Nelida Cyr, Leon was born on March 5, 1935, in Grand Isle, Maine. He was 86 years old.
Brother Leon entered the Institute of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in Pomfret, CT, on September 6, 1952. He professed his first vows on August 24, 1955, in Pomfret, and his final vows on June 25, 1961, at Mount Saint Charles Academy in Woonsocket, RI. He received both a Bachelor’s degree in history and a Master’s degree in the teaching of religion from St. Michael’s College in Winooski, VT, and an advanced certificate in Applied Theology from the University of California at Berkley, to assist him in serving the people of God throughout his 66-years as a Brother of the Sacred Heart.

Dr Cecil Renaud, a well-known Durban Philanthropist, established
The Cecil Renaud Educational and Charitable Trust in 1988. Dr Renaud passed away on 3 June 1993 and bequeathed the residue of his estate to the Trust. Shortly after the Trust became active, the trustees established the Overseas Scholarship.
The Overseas Scholarship, granted annually to one or two students, is awarded for a maximum of two years for post-graduate study (Masters degree (or equivalent) or PhD) in the United Kingdom at a university of the student’s choice.
Since 1994, we have awarded 36 scholarships to the best and brightest young South Africans.
In past years students who have been awarded the Scholarship have attended, inter alia, the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford and the University of London across a wide range of disciplines. This Scholarship is available only to students who completed their secondary schooling at any school in KwaZulu-Natal, and you must be in your final year

CHIPINGE – Reverend John Matiza is the new president of United Church of Christ in Zimbabwe (UCCZ) after being installed during a colorful event held at Musirizwi Ruwadzano Centre in Chipinge on Sunday.
He replaces Rev Ephraim Ngadziore who led the church for two four-year terms.
Rev Matiza told Chipinge Times after the installation that he was calling for unity in the church.
“I am calling upon every member and our partners to come together and work as a team in order to take the church to another level. The president will only provide leadership and all of us will contribute and thereby glorify God,” he said.
