Phoenix man sentenced to 15 years for plot to release radiological materials in Arizona Jamie Landers, Arizona Republic © Maricopa County Sheriff s Office Jared Atkins A Phoenix man was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Thursday after pleading guilty to attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction, according to the U.S. Attorney s Office. A press release from the office states 27-year-old Jared Trent Atkins was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge John Tuchi for a series of crimes committed on April 28, 2019. In addition to 15 years in prison, Atkins also faces 12 years of supervised release. The incident began when Atkins went to a Shell gas station near 32nd Street and Indian School Road at around 12:45 a.m. and stabbed a night clerk working inside, according to the press release.
