PM says officials must cut protocols

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has urged his government ministers, governors, chief ministers and other high-ups to avoid protocol and unnecessary security to “minimise expenditure and end the public inconvenience”.
In his tweets, he announced on Tuesday that he would not be going to any private functions with protocol and security to save taxpayers’ money and avoid the public inconvenience.
“I am also reviewing protocol and security for ministers, governors and PTI CMs to decide how we can minimise expenditure and end public inconvenience,” the PM said.
He said that the next week, the cabinet would decide on a comprehensive policy in this regard. “We will put an end to the colonial legacy of pomp and glory, used to overwhelm the people,” he added.

PESHAWAR: An Anti-Terrorism Court awarded life imprisonment to a member of a banned outfit for involvement in terrorism and kidnapping for ransom.
The Counter-Terrorism Department had arrested Mohammad Javed, a member of the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, during an encounter. He was wanted by the police in various incidents of terrorism and kidnapping for ransom.
Five terrorists gunned down in Balochistan News Desk
The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Tuesday said that five terrorists were killed during a security operation in the Hazarganji area of Balochistan. Five militants were killed when security forces retaliated, said the spokesperson, adding that bodies of the militants had been shifted to a local hospital for identification. He said the law enforcement agencies found weapons and ammunition from the slain militants. Last month, a Pakistan Army soldier was martyred when terrorists attacked soldiers stationed near Turbat, the ISPR had said.

QUETTA: Five suspected militants were killed during an operation conducted by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in the Hazar Ganji area here on Monday night.
A spokesman for the CTD said the department had conducted the operation in the Killi Gulzar area of Hazar Ganji, a locality on the outskirts of Quetta, along with other law enforcement agencies, on information about the presence there of the terrorists.
The security personnel cordoned off the area and asked the armed militants to surrender but they opened indiscriminate fire. The security personnel returned fire, resulting in the killing of five militants. The heavy exchange of fire continued for around two hours.
