The eThekwini municipality did not respond to a request for comment about the borrowed pump.
In a Facebook post on Monday, the municipality said the water supply would be restored later in the day “if everything went according to plan”.
It posted that it had commissioned a cross-connection from Hocking reservoir to the Washington Heights reservoir to enable water supply to KwaSanti, Luganda, Savannah Park and other areas south of Durban.
This prompted Chatsworth residents to criticise the municipality for ignoring their plight.
On Monday Graham said for the water supply to be restored in Chatsworth and Queensburgh, the pump needed to work.

Hundreds of Chatsworth households woke to dry taps on Monday as technicians attempted to repair a water pump in Northdene.
A Covid-19 hotspot, Chatsworth has been without water for four days.
The community has been largely relying on civil society and neighbouring communities for water and claim that municipal water tankers have not been operating in all parts of the area.
The eThekwini municipality said on Sunday evening that the water shortage was a result of an “unexpected malfunctioning of a pump” in Northdene.

Irrigators along the Barwon-Darling will not be allowed to pump water from next Tuesday, following 90 days of low river flows which have activated a rule banning farmers from diverting water from the river system.
