The Planning Inspectorate has been hearing representations from politicians, residents, and developers regarding plans to build 1,250 homes on orchards off Pump Lane, Rainham. The plans for the orchard between Pump Lane and Lower Bloors Lane are subject to an inquiry. Picture: Steve Crispe The online inquiry began on Monday, February 15, and last week, developers AC Goatham and Son submitted their proposals on how to mitigate the impact on traffic at the Bowaters and Will Adams roundabouts, Gillingham, should the development be approved.

Drivers face delays for road widening works in Tollgate, Stanway

Western Approach will initially close from the Western Approach roundabout to the Essex Yeomanry Way roundabout. The same road will then be shut from the London Road roundabout to the Western Approach roundabout. The first closure is due to take effect from March 2 and last until June 22. The second is scheduled from August 6 until September 17. Carriageway widening works are being undertaken by Walker Construction but an alternative route is available via Western Approach, London Road, Tollgate Roundabout, Essex Yeomanry Way, the Halstead Road roundabout, A1124 Halstead Road, the A12 slip from Stanway, the A12 slip to Stanway and Essex Yeomanry Way.

A fruit farming company had wanted to build 1,250 homes on orchards off Pump Lane in Rainham but were turned down in June last year.
