(WXYZ) â Former Michigan Governor Rick Snyder is facing two counts of willful neglect of duty following an investigation into the Flint water crisis.

Snyder is the first Michigan governor charged with a crime in office in the state s history.
Back in 2014, Snyder and his team ordered Flint to switch off Detroit water to the Flint River to save money. Residents water supply became more corrosive and caused lead poisoning and later, an outbreak of legionnaires disease, killing several people.
Remarks made by Michigan State Board of Education Vice President Pamela Pugh last month provoked fiery responses last month from the stateâs charter school community.
In her controversial comments, before the Michigan Civil Rights Commission, Pugh advocated cutting state funds for Michiganâs charter schools by 25%. The recommended cut also is included in the MCRCâs âEducation Equity in Michiganâ report issued on Sept. 30.
Pugh also repeated several inaccuracies contained within the MCRC report, including a claim that charter schools are not bound by the same rules and regulations as traditional public schools. She also incorrectly asserted charter schools only skim the best and brightest students from traditional public schools while rejecting students with special needs.

But what lies ahead in the next semester?
With vaccines on the horizon and lessons learned from the fall, some superintendents are optimistic the upcoming semester can be an improvement, but for at least the first couple of months, things might look very similar to the fall.
School districts will resume classes in person, in a hybrid model or all remote in January as they work toward the end of a challenging year affected by COVID-19.
“We have come a long way through this pandemic since March,” said Jeanice Swift, Ann Arbor Public Schools superintendent. “We are absolutely excited about the prospect about vaccines, and yet we know that we are still at a high point of this surge that we’re currently in.”
