Yet another year of unabated draft contest excitement

The 2021 (fourth annual) Pick-3 draft prediction contest was the biggest and highest-scoring in the history of the annual Hogs Haven draft extravaganza!
The previous scoring record, set last year, was 37 points, but this year’s winner amassed an astonishing 40-point total by correctly predicting the exact player and round for 4 of Washington’s 10 draft picks.
dg28, a long-time member of Hogs Haven, sat in second-place after the first three rounds, with 24 points. At that time, he was 4 points behind the 2018 winner, Maroooook! who had another impressive showing this year, and who had grabbed the early lead heading into Day 3 of the draft.

That defense returns every starter in 2021 aside from CB Ronald Darby, who was replaced by William Jackson III, and weakside linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis, who also left in free agency.
With the signing of Jackson at CB, the Washington defense got better; the same is true with the drafting of Jamin Davis out of Kentucky.

I now know from talking to friends who are non-Washington fans that the pick of Jamin Davis was a bit eyebrow-raising around the league. My pals mostly didn’t know who Davis was and their response was to ask why the Football Team passed on JOK.
The pick didn’t surprise Hogs Haven readers, however.
This year’s participation in the Pick 3 contest was a bit mind-blowing, with nearly twice as many entries as we had last year. In fact, there were 71 entrants into the prediction contest, and 43 (60.5%) of them listed Jamin Davis on their entry form. with 19 (27%) correctly predicting him as the 19th overall pick in the first round.

There is a long tradition of people giving draft picks a grade less than 24 hours after they’ve been made. Some of them are spot on after the players have shown who they are after a few years in the league, and some of them look pretty bad. A lot of graders get stuck on their personal rankings, and will tank a player’s selection because of that. How a player fits with a team, and their needs plays a big part here as well.
