This afternoon just before 2pm, an officer was on patrol in the area of Blue River Road and Bannister Road when they observed the male victim lying in the roadway. The officer stopped to check on the victim and the victim was unresponsive. EMS responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. The investigation at the scene revealed suspicious circumstances and this case is now being investigated as a homicide.

Jul. 17 Kansas City police have opened a homicide investigation after a body was discovered on Friday afternoon lying in the roadway near the Hidden Valley neighborhood on the city s southeast side.
An officer on patrol found the body around 2 p.m. on Blue River Road s underpass at Bannister Road, Officer Donna Drake, a department spokeswoman, said in a statement. The officer stopped to check on the person, who was unresponsive, Drake said.
Emergency medical personnel declared the person dead at the scene. An investigation of the area revealed there were suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, Drake said. The death was classified as a homicide on Friday night.

Late this afternoon, the victim in this case was officially identified by investigators as Gilberto Gutierrez w/m 12-09-1968 who was reported missing on 05-11-21. This case is being investigated as a homicide. Detectives are still working to determine what led up to the victim‘s death. There is no additional information that can be released at this time.
