Chicago snow: Jet City Coalition digs out Des Plaines neighbors after massive snowfall; My Block, My Hood, My City helps in Chicago

DES PLAINES, Ill. (WLS) Jet City Coalition was founded in November 2020, and has already had a successful coat drive. Monday night and Tuesday they were out and about, clearing sidewalks and driveways, digging out neighbors who can t clear their own snow. With each push of his shovel, founder Kevin Murphy is one step closer to fulfilling his mission to give back to his hometown of Des Plaines. Jet City Coalition lends a hand to people in the northwest suburb, and right now means digging out anyone who can t deal with their own snow, free of charge. Just trying to show people around there that we love them, and take this burden on to inspire others to do the same, Murphy said.

Snow surrounding Englewood Free Market cleared by non-profit My Block, My Hood, My City volunteers; organization helps seniors, people with disabilities through snow storm

CHICAGO (WLS) My Block, My Hood, My City volunteers shoveled snow around a building that supplies donated essentials to the Englewood community. Jahmal Cole of the My Block, My Hood, My City non-profit organization said the Englewood Free Market on 68th and Halsted needed help. I was on Instagram, and I saw that, you know, the Free Market needed support. I mean you look across the street, the liquor store is shoveled. How come the Free Market is not shoveled? Cole asked. The Resident Association of Greater Englewood, a non-profit, was buried in snow from the recent storm. Asiaha Butler, RAGE CEO, had a car full of some of the items provided by the organization to seniors and people in need. The items include hand warmers, mask and non-perishable foods. However, the snow prevented her and donors from being able to stock the shelves.
