PANAMA CITY BEACH For a few days this week, two roads near Pier Park will be temporarily closed.
According to Kathy Younce, assistant public works director for Panama City Beach, the road closures include all of Philip Griffitts Sr. Parkway and Pier Park Drive past the northmost entrance of the Pier Park Crossings Apartments.
The roads will be closed from 6 a.m. Tuesday until midnight Thursday as crews put the finishing touches on phase one of Philip Griffitts Sr. Parkway and connect it with phase two.
Formerly known as Bay Parkway and sometimes referred to as Back, Back Beach Road, the street currently stretches from State 79 to north of Pier Park Drive, where it will link with a second segment under construction that spans to Nautilus Street.
Dubbed LSVs for short, the vehicles are known to slow traffic. The tourists who come down here and rent them. They cruise with them for the most part, Jarman said. The majority of the LSVs we re seeing and unfortunately having problems with are from tourists.
He also said there are six businesses on the Beach that rent them that came together last year to create an updated list of safety regulations for their customers.
Jarman said that was an effort to do something before the local government had to step in.
The businesses safety plan was then adopted by the Panama City Beach City Council on July 9, 2020. It includes year-round rules that state registered drivers must wear an armband bearing the name of the rental company; registered drivers are the only person allowed to operate the vehicles; and customers who commit traffic violations can be forced to surrender their vehicles to local law enforcement.
PANAMA CITY BEACH Matt Fancher might not be selling chicken sandwiches, but he wants his car wash s customers to get the high level of service they d receive at a Chick-fil-A just the same.
Located off Panama City Beach Parkway near its intersection with Alf Coleman Road is Blue Sky Express Car Wash, a locally owned, high-end, drive-thru car wash that officially opened Jan. 18. We set out to be the Chick-fil-A of car washes, said Fancher, a Santa Rosa Beach resident and co-owner of the facility. We really wanted to give that next-level experience.
Fancher said that while there are other car washes with similar names in other states, the PCB location is the only one of his brand. It could have opened at the end of last year, but was postponed about a month because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
