Sean McNulty: The Business bassist from Basildon dies aged 64

TRIBUTES have been paid to a beloved bassist and construction worker who has died. Sean McNulty passed away at the age of 64 following a battle with cancer. He was well known across south Essex as the bass player for the band “The Business”. The five-piece performed solidly for the best part of 40 years, and after retiring would reunite for charity concerts, including a performance at the Railway Hotel in Southend in 2017. Mr McNulty has been described as “the driving force” behind the band’s charity endeavours by his family and bandmates. John Haseltine, the band’s lead singer, said: “He never had a bad bone in his body. Asbestos roofing dumped by fly-tippers at RSPB Bowers Marsh

PILES of asbestos roofing, pipes and rubbish have been selfishly dumped outside a well-loved nature reserve just months after vandals targeted the site. The mess, which has been left at the entrance of RSPB Bowers Marsh, was ditched at the Bowers Gifford site on Saturday. Sadly, bosses say they are now used to seeing fly-tipping on a “regular occurrence”. It comes after the nature reserve was forced to shut in March after thugs wreaked havoc in the middle of the night and caused damage to the metal car park barrier by bending it inwards. At the time, the reserve had been targeted by vandals four times in just six months.

Flowers stolen from loved ones graves at Pitsea Cemetery

A HEARTBROKEN dad has shared his grief after finding flowers had been stolen from his wife and daughter’s graves. Thomas Latchford, 69, from Basildon was left “devastated” when he arrived at Pitsea Cemetery on Thursday to find flowers he had laid on his wife and daughter’s graves had been stolen. Thomas’ wife, Jennifer, and daughter, Donna, are buried next to each other at the cemetery in Bowers Gifford, with the family regularly visiting to pay their respects and lay flowers. Mr Latchford said: “I was devastated. I just couldn’t believe that someone would want to do something like that.
