Palmer Backs Naughton For Top 10 Charge
David Palmer has backed coaching charge Hollie Naughton to make a top 10 place in the PSA World Rankings her own.
The Canadian No.1 reached a career high ranking of No.20 in November after reaching the last 16 of the final three ranking events of 2020 at the Manchester Open, Egyptian Open and CIB Black Ball Open.
The 26-year-old will open her competitive campaign this year at the 2021 CIB PSA Black Ball Squash Open with a first-round draw against Holland’s World No.62 Tessa ter Sluis on Friday and is in the same quarter as No.3 seed Camille Serme.

Power Ratings
There have been plenty of changes on the SquashLevels Power Ratings following the CIB Black Ball Squash Open, with only three of the top eight in the women’s ratings remaining in the same position, and one of those did not participate in Cairo.
SquashLevels calculates a player’s current playing level after every match based on their levels going into the match and the result of that match. Their level will increase if they do better than expected or decrease if they do less well than expected giving a very dynamic measure for how well each player is playing ‘at the moment’ and what their playing level has been over time. Egypt’s Fares Dessouky has reached back-to-back PSA World Tour semi-finals for the first time since April 2017 after he came back from a game down to topple Peru’s Diego Elias at the CIB Black Ball Squash Open.
It ends a three-match losing streak to Elias, with the pair having some feisty battles in the past.
Today’s encounter was a nail-biting encounter in which Dessouky demonstrated his impressive power and sublime racket skills to recover from a 13-11 defeat in the opening game. It s such an exciting brand when he plays like this!

Egypt’s World No.14 Mostafa Asal made it back-to-back wins over higher-ranked opposition as he followed up last night’s victory over World No.4 Paul Coll with a comfortable 3-0 win against World No.10 Miguel Rodriguez to reach the semi-finals of the men’s CIB Black Ball Squash Open.
Asal made headlines yet again after toppling New Zealand’s Coll in a climactic five-game battle in the previous round, after which he ripped off his shirt in celebration just as he did when he beat the Kiwi in October’s CIB Egyptian Open in front of the Great Pyramid of Giza.
