Eight major convenience store chain operators that were singled out over such problems submitted improvement plans to the Fair Trade Commission last November.

Supermarkets in Japan are planning to stay closed for longer than usual during the New Year’s holidays in an effort to relieve staff workers of the heavy burden of taking measures against coronavirus infection.
The moves are also part of work-style reform efforts.

Lawson Inc. will close around 85 of its convenience stores across Japan during the country’s New Year’s holiday period, sources close to the matter said Wednesday, breaking from the industry’s 24 hours per day, 365 days per year standard.
