FIFTEEN surveillance cameras are being installed across Bromsgrove in a fightback against an ‘epidemic’ of criminal fly-tipping. It’s part of a community action project calling on residents to help in the battle against the growing problem of people driving into the countryside and dumping waste. Most common is building waste, household waste, and even left-overs from cannabis growing, says local councillor Adam Kent. Councillor Kent, who represents Wythall on Worcestershire County Council, said the plan was to mount remote surveillance cameras on private land to cover fly-tipping hotspots. TARGETS for new houses in Bromsgrove are unlikely to increase, believe pleased planning chiefs. They have welcomed news that the government has provided clarity about the number of new dwellings to be provided across Bromsgrove District. The government has published the first responses to its white paper called ‘Planning for the Future’, which was published in August alongside a consultation on changes to the current planning system. Under new proposals, an even greater emphasis has been placed on the 20 largest English cities to deliver more housing growth within their own areas on brownfield land. For Bromsgrove this is likely to mean a minimum housing target in the region of 370 new houses a year will remain, as opposed to the higher targets previously implied.
