David Seim is Professor of History at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. He directs a small history program within the schoolâs Social Science Department. His research interests include development of safeguards for responsibly unfettered social science, and persistence of conversation about whose interest social science serves. Some of these interests are in his book Rockefeller Philanthropy and Modern Social Science (Routledge, 2015), which stops short of the time period and issues explored here.

Farmers can expect to see all schemes rolled out in the next CAP to have a strong focus on health and safety requirements, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture Martin Heydon has advised.
The next CAP is due to begin on 1 January 2023 and the process of preparing new schemes and measures as part of the development of Ireland’s national strategic plan is currently under way.
Minister Heydon, who has special responsibly for farm safety, told the Seanad on Monday it was his view that all measures in the strategic plan should have a health and safety element incorporated.

Manoj Kumar and Sumit Kamboj from Hawke’s Bay/Wairarapa were named the 2021 New Zealand Share Farmers of the Year, Waikato’s Christopher Vila became the 2021 New Zealand Dairy Manager of the Year and Ruth Connolly from Waikato was announced the 2021 New Zealand Dairy Trainee of the Year. They shared prizes from a pool worth over $210,000.
