Updated: 29/07/2021, 11:03 am John Angus surrounded by his family inside the Home Farm care home on Skye. A councillor who lost his father during a coronavirus outbreak at Home Farm on Skye has spoken of his ongoing search for “closure”. John Gordon described a “tidal wave of issues” faced by families like his own across Scotland, many of which “seem to be left unresolved”. The Skye councillor’s 83-year-old father, John Angus Gordon, was one of 10 residents at the Home Farm facility to die during the pandemic. The controversy, which rocked the island community, has been one of the most high-profile of all the care home outbreaks in Scotland since the start of the crisis.

Moorbank Manor Nursing Home serious concerns raised

Inspectors have raised serious concerns about Moorbank Manor Care Home in Largs A SCOTS care home has been given the lowest possible ratings in almost every category after “serious concerns” were raised about the treatment of residents. Inspectors said medication was poorly managed at Moorbank Manor Nursing Home in Largs and there was a lack of training and competency in dementia care. Infection control was said to be weak and the home was criticised for providing “no choice or variation” of the food on offer to elderly residents. “This lack of choice was also evident in bathing and showering facilities for people”, the report said.

NRS criticised for lack of transparency over care home deaths

© Iain Smith A Scottish Government body has been criticised for its “lack of transparency” after trying to block the release of coronavirus death rates for individual care homes. National Records of Scotland (NRS) was found in breach of freedom of information (FOI) rules by refusing to reveal the Covid-19 fatality rate for facilities across the nation. The Scottish Information Commissioner made the ruling following a joint appeal by the DC Thomson titles, The Scotsman, The Herald and STV. It was concluded that the Scottish Government agency engaged in arguments that were “speculative in nature” in its attempts to block the publication of the statistics.
