The letters which farmers received on Monday should be ignored as they do not deliver an accurate representation of the herd s current level of compliance with BEAM.
Farmers who received letters on Monday relating to an update of their current compliance with the Beef Exceptional Aid Measure (BEAM) are being advised to ignore this letter due to incorrect calculations being used.
The Department of Agriculture states that an IT glitch resulted in the incorrect figures being used to calculate a herd’s compliance and, as such, the update does not deliver an accurate position of the herd’s current compliance.

In the likely event of the scheme being oversubscribed, then selection criteria and a ranking process will determine acceptance into the scheme.
While farmers and advisers are still acquainting themselves with the workings of the Results-based Environment-Agri Pilot (REAP) scheme, initial reports suggest there is a high level of interest.
A high percentage of the queries surfacing to date regard how likely an application is to be accepted into the pilot scheme.
This is because it has a maximum capacity of 2,000 participants and farmers are querying how the scoring card for the main measures will be handled.

Traditional hay meadows cannot be grazed from 15 April until after they are mown annually, which must be after 1 July.
The prohibited period for grazing traditional hay meadows under the Green Low Carbon Agri-Environmental Scheme (GLAS) came into effect this week.
Grazing is not permitted from Thursday 15 April until after the meadow is mown annually, which must be after 1 July.
The maximum application of chemical nitrogen over the year is 40kg per annum or 32 units per acre.
The maximum level of chemical phosphorus allowable is determined by soil samples governing the nutrient management plan.
Weed wiping and/or spot spraying can take place between 15 March and when the meadow is mown annually to control rushes. However, topping cannot take place between these dates.
A €70/ha payment paid on up to 120ha has been proposed for young farmers.
Farm ministers from Germany’s federal states have agreed to ringfence 25% of direct payments for eco schemes.
The move is a strong signal from the ministers and comes before negotiators in Brussels have finalised the reform of the next CAP.
They met for a two-day conference in Berlin and have urged the federal government to adopt their recommendations.
Germany has a total CAP budget in excess of €6bn and under the state ministers’ proposals, almost 50% would go towards environmental spending.
