Funding initiative to provide jobs, training for locals

Training and Skills Development Minister Di Farmer announced the successful projects that will share in the $13.7 million SQW funding. The Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) initiative supports the Wide Bay region by delivering community-based training and job opportunities to unemployed Queenslanders. This second funding round for 2020-21 brings the total SQW investment for the financial year to more than $55.8 million for 284 projects that will provide training and assistance to a total of more than 7,400 jobseekers.

Wide Bay has secured $1.2 million for five projects across the region in the latest round of Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) funding. Member for Hervey Bay Adrian Tantari said the funding for Wide Bay would support five projects that would assist 94 people.

Arterial road to receive much needed upgrades from next week

A $3.5 million upgrade to one of Bundaberg’s busiest stretches of road will begin next week. New asphalt, turning lanes and the widening of road shoulders are on the cards along Princess St and Bargara Rd with works expected to be complete by April. The works come as part of the state government’s $50 billion infrastructure guarantee for Queensland. Plans for the Princess St and Bargara Rd upgrades which will begin on Monday. Transport and Main Roads identified more than 15,000 vehicles use the Princess St and Bargara Rd stretch every day. Bundaberg MP Tom Smith said crews will work “day and night” to get the job done.

Tourists to go nuts for Australian first experience at Bundy

Director for Macadamias Australia Janelle Gerry said the facility will offer a behind-the-scenes experience and showcase the history of the three generation business. This project is really all about bringing visitors into a macadamia orchard to see first-hand what it s like to grow macadamias, Ms Gerry said. Visitors will have an opportunity to have a self-guided or guided tour, be able to walk through the orchard and go through to see the history of our family business which spans over 60 years.
