An FCT High Court in Jabi, Abuja, was on Wednesday told that the ex-Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, was not involved in the award of the alleged N544 million grass-cutting scam awarded by the Presidential Initiative for North East (PINE).
An Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) witness, Hamza Adamu Buwai, however, admitted that a consultancy job was awarded to Rholavision Engineering Limited where Lawal’s sibling has an interest.
Buwai testified before Justice Charles Agbaza, in the alleged contract fraud charge brought against Lawal and five others by the EFCC.
The ex-SGF is standing trial alongside his younger brother, Hamidu Lawal, a director of Rholavision; an employee of the company, Suleiman Abubakar; Managing Director of Josmon Technologies Limited, Apeh John Monday; Rholavision Engineering Limited and Josmon Technologies Limited.
Nigeria is not starved of good people to do us proud. On Monday, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala demonstrated this in making history as the first African and first woman ever to become the Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) to global acclaim. Her first virtual press conference espoused the qualities for which the world picked this international economist and development expert to be admitted into the revered inner sanctum of universal civil service.

Few hours earlier, in faraway Las Vegas in Nevada, Kamaru Usman demonstrated that Nigeria wasn’t lacking brave hearts as he successfully defended his UFC welterweight title against Gilbert Burns and totally annihilated the unfortunate fellow in the third round. Raw power of the highest sort properly channeled into usefulness. A commentator even said he had a PhD in cage fight! That is the height of dexterity and accomplishment.

Dan Onjeh, the Board Chairman of Project Development Institute, PRODA, on Friday, demanded a public apology from the Federal House of Representatives.
Onjeh’s demand was contained in a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.
He also urged the House of Representatives to retract the deliberate falsehood and misinformation that he had been suspended as PRODA Chairman on the directive of Muhammadu Buhari.
According to him, President Buhari has not found him wanting or unfit to continue to hold the Office of PRODA Chairman, because there is absolutely no allegation against him before him.
