LANSING, Mich. â The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services gave an update Wednesday morning on COVID-19 trends in the state.
Information was provided about testing, disease trends, outbreaks, hospitalizations, deaths, vaccinations and the trajectory of the virus in Michigan.
It was led by state epidemiologist Sarah Lyon-Callo, director of the Bureau of Epidemiology and Population Health at MDHHS.
The update comes as metrics continue to surge in the state, with Michigan having the highest case rate in the U.S.

The number of COVID-19 cases and the the positivity rate is surging in Michigan.
DETROIT (FOX 2) - Michigan’s COVID-19 cases are continuing to spike as deaths tick back up.
Health officials provided an update on the state’s virus numbers Wednesday, highlighting that Michigan has the most cases and highest case rate in the country.
In addition to cases, deaths, and hospital bed utilization are also increasing.
Case numbers
The number of positive cases is up 348% since a low on Feb. 19, while the case rates are up 375%.

(WXYZ) â The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services provided an update on COVID-19 data trends in the state on Wednesday morning.
Dr. Sarah Lyon-Callo, the director of the Bureau of Epidemiology and Population Health at the MDHHS talked about testing, disease trends, outbreaks, hospitalizations and more.
The update came amid a massive surge in COVID-19 cases. According to The New York Times, Michigan 13 of the top 20 metro areas that are seeing COVID-19 outbreaks, with Detroit coming in second.

Global coronavirus infections are rising rapidly, 23% in the last two weeks, according to The New York Times database on April 3. Steady increases in cases are concentrated in Brazil and surrounding countries, the northern US and Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and South Asia, according to the weekly newsletter posted April 2 by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington. These epidemics can be largely attributed to the spread of variants, and in the case of the US, an overly hasty re-opening may be to blame.
