LONDON ONT Just two weeks after the first temporary winter shelter opened its doors to Londoners experiencing homelessness, there are early signs of success. Thirty-two people are now staying inside heated construction trailers converted into modest shelter accommodations in the parking lot of the T-Block building on Elizabeth Street. “This is amazing, because we’d be on the streets, sleeping on the streets, freezing our butts off,” explains 45-year old Tanya, who has been homeless for five years along with her boyfriend. “Before we were in here, we were sleeping on the streets. We’re a couple. London has no accommodations for couples,” she says.

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Donations are needed more than ever at Goodwill as the organization sees a rise in the number of people coming in looking for assistance.
“By being able to sell those donated items, we are able to serve more people who are in need at this time,” Chelsea Moran, marketing and public relations for Goodwill, said.
Last year, Goodwill served around 38,000 people in central, southwest, and southside Virginia. This year, Goodwill is reporting that the number of people the organization is helping has nearly doubled.
LONDON, ONT. Organizers of this year’s Business Cares Food Drive said they had no idea what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised when all was said and done. “That’s outstanding,” was a phrase campaign chair Wayne Dunn used repeatedly while hosting Tuesday’s campaign wrap, which was live via Zoom to business and community leaders. The campaign had asked for financial donations instead of food donations due to the pandemic, although one grocery store weekend was held earlier this month with 25 London grocery stores taking part. While there’s no tally as of yet, organizers estimate 20 per cent of the donations are food, while the remaining 80 per cent is monetary.
