The Banff World Media Festival will be honouring longtime Saturday Night Live cast member Kenan Thompson, Shang-Chi and Kim’s Convenience star Simu Liu and Orange Is the New Black’s Danielle Brooks at its online 2021 Rockie Awards.

Jo Jo and Gran Gran has been nominated for a Rockie Awards International Program Competition at this year’s annual Banff World Media Festival.
After beginning as a successful book launch from author Laura Henry, the CBeebies show was adapted to the small screen and follows a black British family throughout their day-to-day lives.
The programme has been hailed for its diversity and representation as it is the first ever British animated series that focuses on a black family.

The Last Dance are among the unscripted and documentary nominees for the 2021 Rockie Awards International Program Competition.
The annual awards program, held by the Banff World Media Festival, honours television and digital media programming from around the globe and is deliberated by an international jury of 150 industry professionals across multiple genres.
The winners for the 29 categories will be announced in a livestreamed ceremony on YouTube, taking place on June 15 as part of a kickoff of the festival, which runs virtually from June 14 to July 16.
BBC Studios picked up the most nominations 28 followed by HBO with nine and Canadian pubcaster CBC with eight.
The Rockie Awards offers prizes in 29 categories, and this year had 142 nominees from 37 countries.
“We’re ecstatic with the range of high-profile international and Canadian programs that entered and are nominated for the 2021 Rockie Awards,” said Jenn Kuzmyk, executive director of the Banff World Media Festival, which produces the long-running competition. “This year’s nominees are a showcase of the spirit, creativity and truly exceptional work the global entertainment industry continued to produce amidst a year of challenge and change.”
In addition to a Grand Jury Prize, the $25,000 Rogers Prize for Excellence in Canadian Content, awarded to the top Canadian production and The Francophone Prize for the top French-language production will also be awarded. And 29 awards will be given in categories such as Documentary & Factual, Arts & Entertainment, Children & Youth, Scripted, and Podcast, besides several Rockies Gala Awards yet to be announced.
