May 10, 2021 ESCANABA The Bay College Alumni Association is announce Susan Cobb as the Bay College Distinguished Alumni for 2021. A resident of Bark River, Cobb earned a Certificate in Practical Nursing (2008) and an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Nursing (2009) from Bay College. When notified as the recipient of the 2021 Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award, Cobb stated, “I am so honored. Bay College was life changing for me, and I am so thankful that I was able to enroll in a community college close to home. I still remember many of my instructors, and their guidance and support pushed me to succeed as a student.”

It has been a seven-month journey through COVID-19 and an organized effort of many faithful people to bring the new JOY Lutheran congregation together. Rev. May 4, 2021 BIG BAY, MI – Diane “D.J.” Burns, 55, of Big Bay, Michigan entered eternal life on February 21, 2021, with her loving family by her side, at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. D.J. was born on May 15, 1965, in Philadelphia, PA, to Michael and Maria Hughes (Santa Barbara). She grew up in a large family with three sisters and two brothers. She eventually found her forever home in the Upper Peninsula during a visit with her sister, Eileen, in 1993. D.J. met the love of her life and soulmate, Scott Burns in 1993, at Vangos in Marquette, while out with a friend. Scott had just finished helping a friend move a woodstove, D.J. took one look and fell in love with Scott at first sight. Shortly after they went on their first date at Eastwood Lanes were inseparable from then on. A year later they married on October 29, 1994. D.J. and Scott moved to Scott’s grandparents’ home, in Big Bay, Michigan, soon after.
