Photo: parkrun BRADFORD s six official parkrun events will not resume on June 5 despite Bradford Council giving the green light for them to go ahead once again. The delay comes as parkrun UK has announced less than half of its events in the country have been given permission by landowners to restart, prompting it to call off its planned resumption date. The free 5k Saturday morning events attract hundreds of runners every week and have been sorely missed as a source of exercise and socialising throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

Reopening of Council run museums and galleries begins today

BRADFORD’S four Council-run museums and galleries have re-opened following the latest lockdown restrictions being lifted. There will now be staggered re-openings for Cartwright Hall Art Gallery, Bolling Hall, Cliffe Castle and Bradford Industrial Museum. Bolling Hall and Cliffe Castle in Keighley reopened today and Bradford Industrial Museum and Cartwright Hall will reopen from 10am on Wednesday May 26. The opening hours at all sites have been revised and will be Wednesday to Friday 10am to 4pm and Saturday and Sunday 11am to 4pm. All the museums are free and no pre-booking is required. Shops at all sites have had a refresh and Cartwright Hall café will reopen fully with table service only to meet Covid rules and with a brand-new menu.

A MAN who won a TV travel challenge says he feels overwhelmed by the support he has received after raising more than £15,000 for charity by running 200km during Ramadan. Emon Choudhury, who won BBC Two s Race Across the World last year, is looking to raise £100,000 to build a school for disadvantaged children in Nepal. He completed 200k during Ramadan, completing his fundraising feat last Wednesday night, which kicked off his latest charity project. His fundraising target stood at £15,460 and rising yesterday. It was the first fundraising event he will hold between now and October 3 when he takes part in this year s London Marathon.

STALWART fundraiser Nazim Ali is preparing for his 8th consecutive Ramadan 10k in Bradford and aims to raise at least £45,000 - enough to build 36 two-room homes in Northern Syria. To date he has already been pledged almost £30,000 and hopes to smash his target by a sizeable amount. Nazim is no stranger to fundraising, having secured more than £320,000 for a plethora of causes both in the UK and abroad over the years. His latest run is on Sunday, May 9, and has been training while in the middle of the Ramadan fast. He is running as part of the Virtual Hamburg, German, 10k, and on Sunday will set off from Lister Park and run to Cottingley and back.
