BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - High school graduations may be pivoting back to a more traditional venue, but some local universities are opting to keep theirs outdoors.
Samford University started their ceremonies last weekend, holding it at their stadium, and UAB will head to Legion Field Saturday to begin theirs.
Samford will use their stadium for the remainder of their ceremonies, allowing plenty of room to space out. Their biggest crowd is expected on May 8, with a limit of 6 to 8 guests per graduate.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Itâs been a little over one month since Legion field became a COVID-19 vaccine site. Officials are launching a new step in their plan to eventually make it a 24 hour location.
âOur numbers are down across the board as far as percentage of residents being vaccinated, so we are going to have to think outside the box,â Birmingham City Council President William Parker said. âWe have to have a stronger more enhanced community engagement strategy as we move forward, so it is going to be changing constantly.â

Griffin-Caldeira said she enjoys painting colorful designs on rocks that “will get kids interested.
“Sometimes I will do a whole theme,” she added.
Griffin-Caldeira said she had inscribed quotes on rocks by the late children s author, Dr. Seuss.
“I had a rock with a quote on it that said, “a person is a person no matter how small,” she said.
Griffin-Caldeira said her daughter has put famous quotes by Seuss on various rocks in various parks. She has written quotes from Cat In The Hat and Thing 1 and Thing 2, she said. “She also did a Toy Story theme.”
