Volunteer information to enable govt tackle insecurity ― Makinde Volunteer information to enable govt tackle insecurity ― Makinde Share Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has urged Nigerians to volunteer information to enable government at all levels effectively tackle insecurity across the country. Beyond simply pointing accusing fingers, he charged residents of the state and the country at large to point out dark elements in their domain and inform security agencies. Makinde made this call on Sunday at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Aremo, Ibadan, at a service to commemorate the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration. Speaking through the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun, Makinde said it was imperative for residents of the state to utilise their various areas of influence to enhance government’s strides on security.

By Emma Una  CALABAR PROFESSOR Ivara Esu, Cross River State Deputy Governor, has said it is shameful to allow herdsmen, Boko Haram insurgents and bandits to continue to terrorise Nigerians. Professor Esu, who was speaking on Sunday during a church service to mark the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, stated that the event should not be just to fulfil all righteousness, but an occasion to pray for the military and country. “I  have been thinking and have not come to terms with why we have not been able to use intelligence to locate and smoke out Boko Harm insurgents and hoodlums from their hideout,” Professor Esu said.

Aghanya however buttressed the minister’s comment in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Makurdi, saying, “I may believe insurgency will end from what the Minister of Defence said because from what I read in the press, the current Government has acquired a lot of both land and air modern fighting equipment which the Military lacked. “E.g as a junior Police officer in 1980-82, Tactical air Command base Makurdi had serviceable Fighter jets. Their base was beautiful just like what you have in developed countries. When I came back as CP in Benue 2007, I paid courtesy visit to the AOC at the base, he told me that there was no reliable fighter jets to protect our Airspace.
