Abu Dhabi is projected to become a global production hub for film and television within the next five years, and the coronavirus pandemic may have played a key role in accelerating that process.
“As you can imagine, this has been a very difficult time for our industry because production around the world has basically come to a hiatus,” Michael Garin, chief executive of Image Nation and Twofour54, said during a panel discussion on Tuesday, as part of the Culture Summit Abu Dhabi.

A number of Emirati and Israeli short films will be shown together as part of a new virtual screening event this week.
Organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), in collaboration with Image Nation and Jerusalem Sam Spiegel
Film & Television School (JSFS), a total of eight short films will be screened on Thursday under the Al Qattara Cinema programme.
The event comes after an agreement between the Abu Dhabi Film Commission, the Israel Film Fund (IFF) and JSFS was signed in 2020 to promote co
operation in film and television between the two countries, including the introduction of a new annual film festival.
