A St Patrick’s Day with a difference this year saw the people of Cork get creative in celebrating our national holiday.
The day which is usually celebrated with parades, Irish flags and green-coloured ice cream was celebrated much more carefully this year due to current restrictions but that didn’t stop people from thinking outside the box.
Many events moved online with offerings such as live gigs and performances, and iconic landmarks across the city and the county were lit green to mark the second year of celebrating St Patrick’s Day under lockdown.

Cork City Council has moved to advise the public that the current severe weather event is not over . Flooding on the Lee road, Cork city.
In a statement this afternoon, the council said that due to the waterlogged land, tree roots foundations are weakened and run-off of rainwater into rivers and on to roads is increased . The continuing adverse weather conditions will lead to further river flooding this evening, the council said. ASTI says representatives had constructive engagement with Minister

The ASTI has said that representatives had “constructive engagement” with the Minister for Education and her officials on the Leaving Certificate today. The Association of Secondary School Teachers in Ireland (ASTI) has said that work is being done with a view to finding a resolution to the current impasse.
Last night, the ASTI announced that it was withdrawing from discussions on the Leaving Cert 2021 pending a guarantee that the talks will focus on the Minister’s stated objectives of planning for examinations and scoping out a corresponding measure.
