Islamabad: Nasir Khan Durrani, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), has died of COVID-19. He was 64.
Nasir Durrani had been on ventilator at the Mayo Hospital in Lahore for over a week after developing complications from COVID-19.
During his tenure as the IGP of the province, Durrani was instrumental in reforming the provincial police and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) attributed these police reforms to its second term in the 2018 general elections.
Prime Minister Imran Khan in a tweet offered his condolences to the family of the former IGP and called him an outstanding officer.

Over 400,000 get first dose of vaccine

LAHORE: More than 400,000 senior citizens had received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine in Punjab while more than 90,000 citizens were given second dose as well. According to the Health department sources here on Sunday, the vaccination had been made in two shifts during the Ramazan.
The vaccination was being given to the senior citizens of above 60 years of age while registration of 50 years and above was also under progress. The vaccine to the citizens above 50 years of age will likely to start from April 21 in the province. The Punjab Health Department had arranged special ambulances for the citizens above the age of 80 years, the sources concluded.
Vacations Extended for All Medical Colleges
The Punjab Health Department has extended the vacations for all the medical institutions until 2 May due to the worsening COVID-19 situation in the province.
According to a notification issued by the provincial Health Department on Sunday, medical schools have been given extended holidays after the coronavirus claimed the lives of a hundred individuals within the last twenty-four hours.
