Virus rages on with 1,849 fresh cases, 25 deaths | Surat News

Surat: Surat city recorded 1,849 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday and witnessed highest deaths due to Covid-19 in the state with 25 patients succumbing to the infections. According to Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) officials, Rander zone recorded the highest daily infections with 305 cases, followed by 297 in Athwa zone on Wednesday. In order to help kin of Covid-19 patients in finding beds in Covid-19 designated hospitals in the city, SMC has reactivated the Covid-19 bed availability status on its website. This online status shows the number of beds available in the hospitals across the city. The hospital details are available for each civic zone. SMC has also attached the contact number of each of the hospitals online asking people to first verify on the given number of the hospital before proceeding towards it.

A special combing operation team in action in Surat Surat: As the spread of Covid-19 virus continues unabated in Diamond City, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has adopted a ‘combing’ method like the police to identify suspected cases. These ‘combing’ operations have started in areas where the new cases continue to be higher. As many as 64 specialised teams have been formed for these ‘combing’ operations. These teams have trained staff members who are expert in tactfully questioning the residents to get out details of suspected patients. These teams have also been instructed to aggressively follow up with the suspected cases. “There are certain areas where the infection rate is not coming down despite imposing curbs like declaring it a containment zone and regular testing. Hence, we started ‘combing’ these areas to identify infected people and start their treatment to stop further spread of the virus,” said Banchhanidhi Pani, SMC commissioner.

Surat municipal commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani Surat: As many as 1,720 fresh cases of Covid-19 were reported in Surat city on Saturday while in rural areas of Surat district 435 more people were found infected. Meanwhile, 26 deaths were recorded in Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) area. City municipal commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani urged citizens to follow two mask policies to prevent Covid infection. Along with wearing two masks, Pani claimed that an individual needs to take supplements to prevent infection. “Not only two masks on the face, but to stay safe from infection, we are trying to make people aware of how they can improve their immunity. People should take supplements of vitamin D, C and zinc to protect themselves from the infection,” Pani told TOI.
