WILLIAMSTOWN — It’s oddly reassuring to find evidence that humans aren’t alone in suffering the effects of cabin fever. The subtle attractions of a quiet, balmy night in early spring proved to be irresistible for a trio of local cows earlier this month. Warm(er) weather residents of the Haley Farm on Cold Spring Road in Williamstown — they over-winter with about 20 Haley herd-mates at another farm in “the Hopper” off Green River Road, a few miles east of their summer resort — the three young cows seemed reluctant to settle in their stalls on the evening of April 1. Richard Haley, whose family has operated the farm for six generations, speculated that a touch of spring fever had infected the cows, but on April 1, he was more concerned with effects, not causes, when his telephone rang at about 9:30 p.m.

Conventions and events bringing visitors to the city were canceled. Corporate and leisure travel ground to a near-halt. Evansville s data looked better than national averages, but the pandemic s negative impact on hotels, restaurants, shops and attractions was unquestioned.

Franklin Street Bar Asking for Help Identifying Wallet Thief The owners of Franklin Street Tavern on Evansville s west side are asking for your help identifying a woman they suspect stole an employee s wallet then proceeded to go on a spending spree around town. The bar posted the surveillance photos below on their Facebook page Monday night saying they believe the woman in the black tank top shirt and shorts in the photos reached over the bar while the bartender was busy with another customer, and took an employee s small black and white Kate Spade wallet around 4:20 p.m. Sunday afternoon. The post did not specify if the wallet belonged to the bartender or another employee. There was also no mention if the person in the blue shirt is believed to be associated with the alleged crime in any way, shape, or form.
