Jailed - Laurence Bourne A VILE child sex offender has been locked up for six years for historic crimes against a young child. Laurence Bourne was lambasted by Judge Samantha Cohen when being jailed after a jury convicted him of seven counts of indecent assault of a child. Bourne abused his victim under the age of 13 between 1989 and 1992, and they bravely reported the crimes to police in April 2019. The 68-year-old of Brackendale Court, Basildon, appeared via video link from prison today at Basildon Crown Court. He showed very little emotion as the devastating victim impact statement was read to the court.
A bedsit owner has been slapped with fine of more than £100,000 after his property was found to be appalling and dangerous. Babatunde Arise, 54, who owns 40 Satanita Road in Westcliff was handed the fine after the council investigation complaints over the home.
Southend Council received various reports of anti-social behaviour from and associated with 40 Satanita Road. Following a site visit, officers found the property to be in poor condition and followed this up with a full inspection.
Mess - a boarded up window Mr Arise was found guilty at Southend Magistrates Court on 18 March 2020 and was fined a total of £88,976 (including costs) following conviction for 17 failures over management of Houses in Multiple Occupation.

He denied the charges but was convicted following a trial at Basildon Crown Court.
