With $35,000 from San Mateo County and donations from community supporters, the new CoastPride Community Center in Half Moon Bay surpassed its fundraising goal of $75,000 and plans to hire a part-time administrator to help oversee the LGBTQ facility on a one-year contract. Located in a prime spot in the coastal city s downtown district, the LGBTQ center officially opened its doors June 1 and launched the fundraising drive to help support its operations. The all-volunteer run group CoastPride launched in August 2019 with the goal to not only bring services to LGBTQ residents between Pacifica and Pescadero but also to open its own center.

(June 28, 2021) Authorities across the Bay Area continue to warn against the use of any fireworks as the Fourth of July holiday approaches, but there are several communities still selling safe and sane fireworks. More stands have been popping up in recent days in places where safe and sane fireworks are legal, and Monday marks the first official and legal day of sales. Among the locations where safe and sane fireworks are on sale include San Bruno, Pacifica, Dublin, Newark, Union City, Gilroy and several North Bay locations.

PACIFICA, Calif. - Nemanja Spasojevic says he was snorkeling off the coast of Grey Whale Cove State Beach in San Mateo County over the weekend, when he was bit by a great white shark. He said the plan was to snorkel for about 45 minutes to an hour, an activity he admits is uncommon for that area. It s a rare activity for that area as visibility is usually extremely low, he wrote. Previous reports stated that Spasojevic was surfing in the area, but he clarified that saying he initially told first responders that he paddled back to shore, but he actually swam back.
