A positive development for solving the city’s waterlogging problem

The two city corporations of Dhaka have finally taken over the management and maintenance responsibilities of 26 canals and 10 kilometres of box culverts from Dhaka Wasa. These canals and box culverts along with 385km of storm water drainage had been under Wasa s jurisdiction since 1988. However, Wasa had failed miserably to maintain these water bodies and reclaim the canals that have been grabbed by powerful quarters. As the city s waterlogging problem became acute during the past few years, the two city corporations had expressed their wish to take over the responsibility, claiming that they could solve these long-standing problems.
Padma riverbank turns attractive tourist spot after RCC’s beautification work

RAJSHAHI, Dec 28, 2020 (BSS) – Padma riverbank adjacent to the Shaheb Bazar area of the divisional town has turned into an attractive tourist and recreational spot as the Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) recently implemented a beautification project there.
Under the project amusement spots, open stage, gallery, park, bridge, walkway and other need-based infrastructures were constructed at a cost of around Tk 42.2 million.
City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton during a visit to the site on Sunday expressed his firm resolve to restore the scenic beauty of the river bank and enhance the cleanliness drive in the area to facilitate large numbers of people to enjoy their visit in a comfortable atmosphere.

Google has recently partnered with the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) and the Access to Information (a2i) Programme to bring the Google Flood Forecasting Initiative to Bangladesh, which experiences more flooding than any other country in the world. Google currently covers more than 40 million people in Bangladesh, and has been working to extend the flood forecasting to the whole country.
If there is a current flooding situation in an area, users will see a visual overview of essential information, including the rise or fall of the water level in the next day with a description of the situation containing specific guidance where available. Users will also see a colour-coded map indicating the flooded areas clicking on this map will open a larger, more detailed view in Google Maps, where users can zoom in to understand water levels in specific regions.
