Around 5.72 lakh vehicles crossed the country s largest bridge in April, down from 6.14 lakh the previous month, according to the monthly traffic report released by Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA).
Some 3.10 lakh vehicles used the bridge in April last year amid suspension of public transport services, shows the report.
The number of cars and motorcycles using Bangabandhu Bridge saw a sharp rise during the lockdown as these light vehicles apparently replaced buses as modes of transport, sources said.

Over the last three days, hundreds were seen entering the city as many offices and factories have already reopened after the holidays.
Many were seen flouting health guidelines not wearing masks or maintaining physical distancing raising the risk of Covid-19 transmission.
While people from high-income groups are returning either in private cars, flights, or rented vehicles, middle-class and low-income people are using cheaper means.

Thousands of people are returning to Dhaka from their homes after the Eid holidays as government and private offices reopened yesterday.
Health experts have been expressing concerns that the people travelling cross-country en masse will cause a sharp spike in the number of new cases of Covid-19.
