Buckeye Career Center recently named Tommy Johnson and Ellie Stevenson as the April Students of the Month and Anthony Landis as the Adult Education Student of the Month.
Johnson is a senior at Carrollton High School and is enrolled in the energy operations and auto collision repair labs. He is the son of Angela Johnson. He works for Griffeth & Son Trucking.
Stevenson is a home-schooled student from the Indian Valley School District enrolled in Introduction to Nursing. She is the daughter of Danny and Mary Stevenson. She is employed by Park Village, is a two-year member of BCC’s Drug Free Clubs of America and is the current Future Health Professionals vice-president at BCC. She serves as a Buckeye ambassador. Stevenson plans to attend Malone University to receive her bachelor’s of science in nursing and wants work in an intensive care unit.
NEW PHILADELPHIA Construction students at Buckeye Career Center are building boxes to hold the flags that cover veterans caskets at their burials.
The project serves two purposes: it gives the juniors the opportunity to serve the community, and it gives veterans survivors a way to display the flags. Many times these flags get shoved in a closet. The flag boxes can cost over $100 and are hard to find, said Debra Cook, director of the Tuscarawas County Veterans Service Office.
All veterans who are honorably discharged are eligible for a flag when they die, Cook said.
The triangular boxes are made from red oak with a clear acrylic front.
