TRC signs charter to formalise support for Region’s small businesses
Toowoomba Region Mayor Paul Antonio today (March 16) formalised Toowoomba Regional Council’s support for thousands of small businesses when he joined Queensland Small Business Commissioner Maree Adshead to sign the Small Business Friendly Councils charter.
Mayor Antonio said signing the charter underlined Council’s commitment to more than 15,700 small businesses and sole operators across the Region.
“Council is pleased to formalise its support for our Region’s small businesses by signing the charter, which is an initiative of the State Government’s Small Business commissioner,” Mayor Antonio said.

Believe in yourself, Mayor Antonio tells Region’s Secondary School leaders
Toowoomba Region Mayor Paul Antonio today (March 4) encouraged students to “work hard and believe in themselves”.
“Schooling is an important part of one’s life and it very often gives you the direction and the opportunity that you never thought you had,” Mayor Antonio said.
Student leaders from 25 Toowoomba Region Secondary Schools joined the annual Mayor and Councillors’ function at the Highfields Cultural Centre to recognise their leadership roles in 2021.
New members of Council’s 2021 Regional Youth Leaders program were also welcomed into their leadership roles at the event.

USQ Engineering, Science student awarded 2021 W. H. Groom Scholarship
Nineteen-year-old USQ Engineering/Science student Matthew Armanasco is the Toowoomba Region 2021 W. H. Groom Scholarship recipient.
Toowoomba Region Mayor Paul Antonio congratulated the former St Mary’s College student on his academic and community service achievements. The award was presented at today’s Toowoomba Australia Day celebrations at Picnic Point.
Matthew, pictured, is in his second year of a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and a Bachelor of Science (Electrical and Electronic Engineering Physics) double degree at USQ.
He is the sole recipient of the 2018 USQ Chancellor’s Scholarship, which is awarded to students who demonstrate academic performance and community involvement.
