A man was shot dead while hanging out behind a home on Washington Street in the City of Poughkeepsie early Friday. It was the second homicide in the city this year, according to Det. Lt. Matt Clark, at least the second shooting in the city since Sunday and the third act of violence reported by City of Poughkeepsie police this week Police said a 21-year-old man was hanging out with friends on the back porch and in the backyard of the house when someone fired more than 10 shots at them from Marshall Street at 1:04 a.m. Friday.

Officials have acknowledged a gun violence problem in the city among school-aged residents, both as victims and suspected perpetrators. On June 20 of last year, 16-year-old Frederick Wells was shot on Charles Street after his 16-year-old companion was stabbed. On Sept. 21, 15-year-old Jalani Jones was shot in the head near the corner of North Clinton and Main streets. And on Jan. 8 14-year-old Akeem Stevens was shot in the head while inside the residence at 32 Conklin St. Michael P. Poughkeepsie PD rescues baby ducklings caught in storm drain News 12 Staff Updated on:May 10, 2021, 6:16pm EDT The Town of Poughkeepsie police rescued some ducklings that were caught in a storm drain Monday.  Police and an animal control officer tried to get access to the ducks at 52 Kingwood Park, but could not reach them due to the storm grate.  The Town of Poughkeepsie Highway Department removed several storm drain covers so officers could scoop the ducklings up to safety.  Animal control waited for the mother duck to come out and collect her ducklings, and all of the ducklings followed her home.
