High winds are said to have delayed much needed repairs to the crane at the Camden Park Container Port.
January 15, 2021 was the deadline for completion of repairs and the return of the crane to full operation.
However, according to Senator Julian Francis, Minister responsible for ports, while giving an update on the situation during the debate of the 2021 Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure in Parliament on January 27, explained that with the crane being 120 feet high, work was suspended after it was thought to be too risky for the technicians to work at that height.
Nothing New: Old Time Politics
Dr. Godwin Friday, Leader of the Opposition, has found very little if anything inventive and relevant about the 2021 Budget.

Leader of the Opposition Dr Godwin Friday picked up where he left off in his critique of the 2021 Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure, during his response to this year’s Budget Presentation, February 1.
Friday said in his response to the Minister Finance Camillo Gonsalves’ 2021 Budget presentation, that it was not one that had been crafted for the present times. This is a timid response to the pandemic,” Friday said.
He added that members of the public were presently at a heightened state of concern and anxiety as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, …… (and) the threat of an explosive eruption of La Soufriere.

The practice of persons who test positive for COVID-9 and are told to go home to quarantine without the assistance of any specialized arrangement needs to stop.
This call was made by Leader of the Opposition Dr Godwin Friday during his contribution to the debate of the Appropriation Bill, February 1.
Dr. Friday told the House of Assembly that he had heard of stories of persons with no access to private transport who, after being tested positive for COVID-19 at district flu clinics, have been sent home to quarantine.
Prisons to gets some attention
Provision has been made in the 2021 Budget for some maintenance and repair work at the two prison facilities here (Belle Isle pictured).

The prison facilities in Kingstown and Belle Isle are expected to receive some attention this year.
Plans are afoot to effect some much needed electrical, plumbing and structural work at the facilities. Our prison system was the unfortunate focus of attention last year when two dangerous criminals briefly escaped from Her Majesty’s Prisons. They were subsequently reprehended without endangering the public,” Minister of Finance Camillo Gonsalves said in the 2021 Budget address.
