Supreme Court dismisses Mahama s review application

The Supreme Court has dismissed a review application by Former President John Dramani Mahama challenging the court’s decision not to compel the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mrs Jean Adukwei Mensa.

705 The Minister designate for Communications and Digitalisation, Mrs Ursula Owusu Ekuful, has said it is time telecommunication companies that operate mobile money paid taxes on the profits they generate from their services. She said reports she had from the common platform, which monitors mobile money transactions, showed that in January this year alone, monthly transactions that passed through mobile money platforms amounted to GH¢81.3 billion. That, she said, generated GH¢124.5 million in transaction fees for the mobile money operators, yet the money generated was not taxed, as applied to financial transactions, saying “if the state gets even 10 per cent of that per month, that is GH¢12.5 million”.

705 Lawyers for the petitioner in the 2020 presidential election petition,  have initiated a move to get an opportunity to address the Supreme Court before its ruling on whether or not to grant the petitioner the chance to reopen his case. In a letter dated Monday, February 15, 2021, signed by Mr Tony Lithur, a member of the legal team of the petitioner, former President John Dramani Mahama, addressed to the Chief Justice and seen by Graphic Online, the lawyers asked the Supreme Court to allow them to argue further in relation to the petitioner’s quest to reopen his case. The letter is asking the court to allow the lawyers time to argue on a point made by Justice Samuel K. Marful-Sau, one of the Justices hearing the petition, during Mr Tsatsu Tsikata’s argument in support of the motion to reopen the case on Monday.
