It is not a blockbuster, historic, bread-and-milk kind of storm. But New Jersey is facing serious wintry conditions throughout the daytime hours Thursday.
For the latest winter storm forecast information, please refer to my newest weather blog post.
What s New? Overnight, forecast model consensus shifted our impending winter storm slightly southward. That is a slightly colder and snowier solution. Those models have also come into much better agreement regarding the timing of the start, peak, and wintry mix transition. Having said that, the end time of this storm system is a bit hazy now precipitation could linger over New Jersey through much of Friday. I remain very concerned that icy mix (sleet and freezing rain) will be the ultimate snow buster, especially across for the southern half of the state.
Another wintry mess for NJ Thursday-Friday: More snow, more ice

I feel like I ve used the words another and more in my weather blog excessively over the last month. I should really just setup a hammock and mini-fridge in the weather center and live there during the winter months.
We have another winter storm looming for Thursday a messy progression of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain that will impact the entire state. Both snow and ice accumulations are on the table here. And I m especially concerned as the heaviest precipitation is expected during the daytime hours on Thursday. That means road conditions could be dramatically different during the morning commute, the lunch rush, and the evening ride home.
The End of Ice/Rain
Monday night s storm system played out pretty close to expectations. It was an icy scene in northwestern New Jersey. And a very icy scene in and around Sussex County, with upwards of 0.34 of ice accumulation reported early Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, as temperatures through central and southern New Jersey soared into the 40s and 50s, we saw a period of soaking rain. (My ride to work was an adventure in hydroplaning.)
A few things to keep in mind for Tuesday morning s commute: There are numerous accidents and power outages in NW NJ, due to the icy conditions. The icing won t last long, as temperatures are already at or above the freezing mark.
