KARACHI: Despite the lapse of 13 years, the case related to the killing of six people in an arson attack in Tahir Plaza is still pending trial primarily for want of witnesses, it emerged on Friday.
The legal fraternity on Friday also staged a protest to mark the 13th anniversary of the tragic incident.
Advocate Altaf Abbasi with his five clients was burnt to death at his Tahir Plaza office near the City Courts in April 2008 when the building, which mostly housed lawyers’ offices, was set ablaze following a spat between two groups of lawyers at the City Courts.
Three accused M. Imran alias Imran Saeed, Ahmed Saeed alias Saeed Bharam and Faisal Javed with their 12 absconding accomplices have been charged with violence, burning six people in an arson attack and terrorism on April 9, 2008.

ISLAMABAD: Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar has lauded the role of the leading charities and corporate sector in Pakistan in lessening the miseries of the deprived people during the anti-coronavirus lockdown imposed last year.
Punjab Governor stated this as he along with Azad Kashmir President Sardar Masood Khan conferred 13th CSR Awards on 75 different companies and organizations for showing excellence in the field of corporate social responsibility during last one year.
Speaking on the occasion, AJK President lauded services of National Command and Operation Centre owing to which coronavirus-related sufferings remained much less in Azad Kashmir area.
On the occasion, 75 companies were conferred awards for showing outstanding performance in the arena of Corporate Social Responsibility. Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection inaugurated the summit.
NUST, NFEH formalise partnership

Islamabad: The National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) and the National Forum for Environment & Health (NFEH) on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding to formalise their longstanding bilateral partnership.
The MoU signing ceremony was held on the main NUST campus here. NUST rector Engineer Javed Mahmood Bukhari and NFEH president Naeem Qureshi expressed their resolve to collectively contribute to nation-building initiatives.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were CSR Club Pakistan president Anis H Younus and some notable members from the corporate sector. A guided tour of the campus was also arranged for the guests, including National Science & Technology Park and N-ovative Health Technologies. The NFEH team also planted saplings on the occasion promising to help increase green cover in the country.
