Would-be council members in the county seat vied for two contested races: At-large and Ward 3.
Along with Incumbent Councilwoman Rebecca Smith, new candidates Fernando Feliciano and Tiffani Hendley faced off for the two open at-large positions. Dustin Queenan and Ana Santoyo faced off in the Ward 3 race.

Ward 1 also has a vacancy that Rashaad Bates hoped to fill. Bates was the sole candidate in that race listed on the May 18 ballot, according to Montgomery Countyâs 2021 unofficial primary candidate list.
Early votes posted by the Montgomery County Board of Elections as of 7:30 a.m. Wednesday indicate that Hendley led the field for the at-large candidates with 1,414 votes, then Smith with 1,132, followed by Feliciano with 841.

I saw smoke up the street, but it looked a little different, said Johnson. As he watched in alarm, the smoke got heavy and darker. He quickly realized that it was emanating from a three-story duplex home, which has an apartment on the first floor and another on the second and third floors. Johnson, 70, a four-year Marine veteran, credits his military instincts for what sent him dashing toward the blazing building.
