Strong cold front to pass through Tuesday with snow and wind

BOZEMAN â Crazy weather pattern for SW Montana. Sundayâs highs fell just a few degrees short of record high levels with upper 40s and lower 50s. Monday temperatures are very close to record high levels as well, in fact, as of 1 pm Monday Butte has a tied record high and Dillon is one degree shy.
This is the second round of record highs in the month of December but a cold front will slam on the breaks to the unseasonably warm weather.

UPDATE: The National Weather Service has issued a WIND ADVISORY for the Butte-Blackfoot region from 5 am to 5 pm Saturday. Sustained winds 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to or over 50 mph are possible.
Areas impacted: Anaconda, Georgetown Lake, MacDonald Pass, and around Avon, Garrison to Elliston.
Property damage is possible along with downed trees and power outages.
BOZEMAN â The greatest weather hazard this weekend will be strong gusty winds across Montana. High wind prone areas along the Rocky mountain front, upper Yellowstone and hi-line region could see a long duration high wind event beginning Friday evening and continuing through Sunday evening.

BOZEMAN â The next 3 to 5 days will be an active time for stronger surface winds and periods of snow.
The combination of a stronger Polar jet stream and embedded Pacific storms will produce periods of snow mostly over mountains and passes through early next week. Favored areas along the MT/ID state line will have a higher probability for accumulating snow and include West Yellowstone, Yellowstone National Park to Cooke City and back to the west over Lookout, Lolo, Lost Trail mountain passes.
A tightening pressure gradient will develop in favored downsloping areas east of the Rocky mountain front Friday into Saturday. This means surface wind gusts could reach or exceed 60 mph for central Montana counties.
