Cell Host & Microbe, the findings generate invaluable insight into how gut microbes break down processed foods and lower the risk of health conditions often associated with those foods, such as obesity and diabetes.
Microbes mitigate the effects of processed foods
When food is processed or cooked at high temperatures, a chemical reaction between amino acids and sugars leads to the formation of chemicals known as Maillard Reaction Products (MRPs). Depending on how the food was processed, MRPs can either be beneficial or toxic. With processed foods, it is often the case that the MRPs are toxic. Fructoselysine, for instance, a kind of MRP found in whey protein, has been linked to the development of diabetes and atherosclerosis, or the buildup of plaque along the arteries. If left unchecked, atherosclerosis raises the risk of heart disease and its complications.
Luteolin is a flavonoid known for its antioxidant properties. It is found in plant-based foods like fruits and vegetables and medicinal herbs used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). But aside [.]
In a study published in
Scientific Reports, an international team of researchers found that dimethyltryptamine (DMT) in ayahuasca tea can induce a rhythm of oscillating “delta” and “theta” waves in the brain, similar to the wave pattern during dreaming. People on DMT go through immersive dream-like experiences that feel “more real than real.”
“We found a nice parallel between what happened in the DMT experience and the dream experience,” said Christopher Timmermann, a psychedelics researcher at
Imperial College London and the lead author of the study.
The researchers are conducting more studies to learn more about DMT’s effects on the brain and whether the compound can be used for treating mental illness.
https://www.afinalwarning.com/463247.html (Natural News) Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) is a powerful antioxidant that’s crucial for digestion and energy creation. Many people take ALA supplements to help with inflammation, memory loss, aging skin and many other medical conditions.
ALA is also gaining popularity among people with diabetes. Several studies suggest it can lower blood sugar levels and prevent diabetic neuropathy – a type of nerve damage that occurs when high blood sugar injures nerves throughout your body.
Depending on the affected nerves, the symptoms of diabetic neuropathy can range from pain and numbness in your legs and feet to problems with your heart, blood vessels, digestive system and urinary tract. Diabetic neuropathy is a serious complication of diabetes as it can be quite painful and may even lead to the amputation of a toe, foot or leg. It affects up to 50 percent of all diabetics.
Homocysteine is an amino acid produced when proteins are broken down. High homocysteine levels, called hyperhomocysteinemia, are known to increase disease risk. As a case in point, the condition [.]
