Oman s two-phase mass COVID-19 immunisation drive starts

Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Saidi, Minister of Health, became the first person in the Sultanate to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
Muscat: Oman’s Minister of Health Dr Ahmed Mohammed Al Saidi launched the National Campaign for Immunisation against COVID-19 under the theme (Immunisation Is a Prevention) at Seeb Specialised Polyclinic yesterday.
Several undersecretaries of the ministry, as well as healthcare workers were present on the occasion. Among the first to be vaccinated were Dr John Jabbour, the Representative of the World Health Organization in Oman, frontline healthcare workers in the country, and members of the community.

NCSI carrying out opinion poll on COVID-19 vaccine

Muscat: The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), in cooperation with the Directorate General for Disease Surveillance & Control at the Ministry of Health, continues carrying out an opinion poll during December 15 - 31, 2020, on a sample of 3,000 Omani and non-Omani (18 years and over) in all parts of the Sultanate.
The survey poll aims to measure public awareness on COVID-19 vaccine, as well as the attitudes and practices related to the vaccine.
The poll also aims to identify the surveyed individual’s view on the safety of the vaccine, their belief on its capability to prevent them from the infection, their opinion on whether it is necessary to take the vaccine for those with a history of infection, the side effects of the vaccine, and number of doses needed.

Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital haematologist Dr Xuan Ni Tan is one of five cancer researchers awarded a State Government fellowship in the latest round of the WA Cancer and Palliative Care Network Fellowship program.
She will use her fellowship to determine whether the benefits of more targeted treatment can justify the costs of using advanced gene-sequencing technology to screen patients before they start treatment.
