20Hall of Fame Palmer9-Violet Palmer is inducted into the Cal Poly Pomona Athletics Hall of Fame with Athletic Director Brian Swanson February 29, 2020.
Violet Palmer has historical success as a basketball player and as a referee. She was born and raised in Compton, CA and started playing basketball at five years old.
Palmer attended Compton high school and played for the girls’ basketball team. Her efforts would get her a scholarship to play basketball at Cal Poly Pomona. Darlene May, Palmer’s college coach, introduced officiating to her.

Sarah Holmgren remembers asking her then 8-year-old son Chet what he wanted to be when he grew up. He said A pro basketball player, she recalled. There were long odds against that, so my husband, David, and I asked him about a back-up plan. David and I disagree on our memories of this. David remembers him saying he was going to be a pro football player. I remember him saying he was going to be an astronaut, which has worse odds than going pro. When we said that those odds were worse, he remarked with I know, so leave me alone. He s always been laser-focused on his goal.

Those were the latest awards, added to earlier accolades such as The Naismith Award, the Wootten Award, McDonald s All-American and Nike Hoops Summit team. I m probably going to need to build a trophy case, he joked.
Holmgren s final list of schools: Georgetown, Gonzaga, Memphis, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina and Ohio State.

Minnehaha Academy s 7-1 Chet Holmgren will make his college announcement at noon Monday on ESPN s SportsCenter, according to a tweet by Paul Biancardi, ESPN national recruiting director.
Those were the latest awards, added to earlier accolades such as The Naismith Award, the Wootten Award, McDonald s All-American and Nike Hoops Summit team. I m probably going to need to build a trophy case, he joked.
