City applies for FireSmart funding to reduce surface fuels

Posted: March 10, 2021 Kimberley City Council Report On March 8, City of Kimberley council held its regular bi-monthly meeting. Councillors Kyle Dalum, Kent Goodwin, Nigel Kitto, Jason McBain, Darryl Oakley and Sandra Roberts were present along with Mayor Don McCormick. Councillors attended the meeting in-person, however, the press and public were not allowed in Council Chambers. The meeting streamed live on the city’s YouTube channel. Watch the archive here. FireSmart Application Assistant Fire Chief Will Booth presented council with a request to submit an application to UBCM’s FireSmart Economic Recovery Fund. The funds, if secured, would be used to “reduce surface fuels” on city-owned lots which have been identified in the CWPP (Community Wildfire Protection Plan). Some lots are small, less than a hectare, and others on the municipal boundaries are large “tens of hectares.”

Cases heard by Salisbury and Swindon Magistrates courts

SOME of the cases heard by Salisbury Magistrates : RICHARD BURRELL, aged 33, of Ivy Street, Salisbury, pleaded guilty to intentionally damaging property to the value of £186 on September 9 last year. He was ordered to pay compensation of £186. DANIEL MILLER, aged 42, of Middle Street, Brighton, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of drugs in Salisbury. On June 22, 2019, Miller was driving a Mini along Downton Road with delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol in his blood - an ingredient identified in cannabis. He also did not have the appropriate licence. Miller indicated a plea of guilty to possessing cannabis. He was fined £180, and was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £32 and costs of £85. He was disqualified from holding a driving licence for 12 months.
