(AFRICAN EXAMINER)- Against the backdrop of refusal of Nigeria’s state governors to observe the constitutional provisions for the funding of the judicial Arm of government in the country, which led to the ongoing strike by Judiciary Staff union of Nigeria, (JUSUN), a human Rights organization, Civil Rights Realization and Advancement Network, (CRRAN) has urged the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada to slam Visa ban on the said governors and their families.
The Senate has confirmed the nomination of Justice Salisu Abdullahi as the Chief Judge for the High Courts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Justice Abdullahi’s nomination was approved by the lawmakers on Wednesday during plenary in the upper chamber of the National Assembly in Abuja.
The approval followed the consideration and confirmation of the report of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters on the judge’s nomination.
Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the chairman of the committee, laid and presented the report on the floor of the Red Chamber.
In its observations, the committee noted that the appointment of the nominee certified the requirement of the Constitution of the Nigeria Constitution, 1999 as altered and Senate Standing Order as amended.
Addressing a press conference Sunday in Abuja, Hon Maje, who is also the Chairman of Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State, said one Hon Kolade Alabi David, who has been claiming to be the President of ALGON is not recognised by the Nigerian constitution and the constitution of ALGON being “a chairman of a Local Council Development Authority (L. C. D. A) created by Lagos State House of Assembly, unknown to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 and Association of Local Governments of Nigeria Constitution.”
He said an Abuja Federal High Court had restrained the chairman of Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Hon Alabi Akolade David-led faction ALGON from parading themselves as the leaders of the association.
